Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Real Estate, Capital Goods and Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.61%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.51%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Nestle India Ltd (NSE:NEST), which rose 3.28% or 74.60 points to trade at 2,350.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Britannia Industries Ltd (NSE:BRIT) added 2.90% or 150.25 points to end at 5,329.60 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NSE:HLL) was up 2.61% or 59.75 points to 2,349.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Wipro Ltd (NSE:WIPR), which fell 4.23% or 10.45 points to trade at 236.80 at the close. State Bank Of India (NSE:SBI) declined 3.40% or 26.10 points to end at 742.50 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (NSE:TEML) was down 3.31% or 43.45 points to 1,270.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which rose 3.24% to 2,349.00, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was up 2.52% to settle at 2,347.10 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which gained 1.97% to close at 294.50.
The worst performers were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 3.40% to 742.25 in late trade, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which lost 3.35% to settle at 1,271.00 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was down 3.17% to 3,061.05 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1516 to 809 and 39 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2231 fell and 1501 advanced, while 144 ended unchanged.
Shares in Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) fell to 52-week lows; falling 3.17% or 100.15 to 3,061.05.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 5.22% to 21.51.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 2.39% or 71.56 to $3,061.76 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 4.25% or 2.53 to hit $57.05 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 4.08% or 2.56 to trade at $60.26 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.53% to 86.70, while EUR/INR rose 1.16% to 95.61.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.64% at 102.04.
