Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Real Estate, Oil & Gas and Auto sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.58%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.51%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Axis Bank Ltd (NSE:AXBK), which rose 0.75% or 8.70 points to trade at 1,170.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Britannia Industries Ltd (NSE:BRIT) added 0.70% or 37.50 points to end at 5,388.50 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NSE:HCLT) was up 0.55% or 8.60 points to 1,571.90 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Shriram Finance Ltd. (NSE:SHMF), which fell 4.20% or 26.75 points to trade at 609.90 at the close. Adani Enterprises Ltd (NSE:ADEL) declined 3.53% or 83.10 points to end at 2,270.00 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NSE:MAHM) was down 3.39% or 105.90 points to 3,014.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 0.70% to 1,170.00, HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was up 0.67% to settle at 1,573.10 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which gained 0.33% to close at 2,102.30.
The worst performers were Eternal Ltd (BO:ETEA) which was down 3.97% to 227.50 in late trade, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which lost 3.36% to settle at 3,014.95 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was down 2.19% to 8,789.05 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1691 to 653 and 48 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2463 fell and 1284 advanced, while 125 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 14.68% to 21.86 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.30% or 43.99 to $3,347.91 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.69% or 0.98 to hit $59.05 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.47% or 0.90 to trade at $62.02 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 1.09% to 85.61, while EUR/INR rose 0.98% to 96.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.46% at 99.90.
