Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Real Estate, Metals and Consumer Durables sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.25%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.25%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE), which rose 4.43% or 37.80 points to trade at 890.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) added 2.50% or 6.25 points to end at 255.80 and ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) was up 2.04% or 7.20 points to 360.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which fell 4.66% or 20.40 points to trade at 417.10 at the close. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) declined 4.04% or 9.20 points to end at 218.80 and Divi's Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI) was down 3.39% or 115.80 points to 3,298.75.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which rose 1.99% to 360.50, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was up 1.22% to settle at 4,540.60 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which gained 0.71% to close at 1,896.45.
The worst performers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 4.06% to 218.75 in late trade, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 1.49% to settle at 1,012.45 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was down 1.35% to 1,753.50 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1017 to 877 and 45 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1723 fell and 1676 advanced, while 111 ended unchanged.
Shares in Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) rose to 3-years highs; up 2.50% or 6.25 to 255.80. Shares in ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) rose to all time highs; up 2.04% or 7.20 to 360.70. Shares in Divi's Laboratories Ltd. (NS:DIVI) fell to 52-week lows; losing 3.39% or 115.80 to 3,298.75. Shares in ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) rose to all time highs; gaining 1.99% or 7.05 to 360.50.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.12% to 15.91.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.25% or 4.30 to $1,711.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.81% or 0.72 to hit $88.19 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.70% or 0.67 to trade at $94.69 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.19% to 81.52, while EUR/INR fell 0.08% to 81.89.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.30% at 109.87.
