Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Healthcare and Banking sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.12%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.27%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Shriram Finance Ltd. (NSE:SHMF), which rose 4.13% or 23.05 points to trade at 580.85 at the close. Meanwhile, NTPC Ltd (NSE:NTPC) added 3.29% or 10.35 points to end at 325.15 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NSE:MAHM) was up 2.98% or 82.05 points to 2,839.45 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were HDFC Bank Ltd (NSE:HDBK), which fell 2.32% or 40.10 points to trade at 1,687.10 at the close. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NSE:MRTI) declined 1.94% or 245.50 points to end at 12,440.65 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (NSE:TEML) was down 1.66% or 27.95 points to 1,657.85.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 3.38% to 325.35, Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (BO:APSE) which was up 2.79% to settle at 1,110.95 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which gained 2.51% to close at 2,826.40.
The worst performers were HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was down 2.38% to 1,685.90 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which lost 1.81% to settle at 12,450.00 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 1.77% to 1,656.30 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1692 to 617 and 87 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2568 rose and 1220 declined, while 109 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 4.57% to 14.72.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.23% or 36.09 to $2,972.19 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.06% or 0.04 to hit $72.14 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.09% or 0.07 to trade at $76.11 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.32% to 86.61, while EUR/INR fell 0.15% to 90.45.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 106.78.
