Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Public Sector Undertakings, Power and Consumer Durables sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.01%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.06%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NSE:HDFL), which rose 3.66% or 26.15 points to trade at 741.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NSE:MRTI) added 3.18% or 377.00 points to end at 12,218.00 and SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NSE:SBIL) was up 1.80% or 31.20 points to 1,761.30 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NSE:BJFS), which fell 5.66% or 116.90 points to trade at 1,950.00 at the close. Bajaj Finance Ltd (NSE:BJFN) declined 5.27% or 479.50 points to end at 8,613.50 and Trent Ltd (NSE:TREN) was down 4.76% or 256.50 points to 5,135.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which rose 3.04% to 12,207.00, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 1.65% to settle at 1,854.00 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which gained 0.94% to close at 306.10.
The worst performers were Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was down 5.44% to 1,952.70 in late trade, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which lost 5.18% to settle at 8,618.05 and Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was down 3.37% to 643.15 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1938 to 434 and 30 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2829 fell and 929 advanced, while 145 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 6.46% to 18.49.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.39% or 46.25 to $3,287.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.81% or 0.49 to hit $59.93 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.79% or 0.50 to trade at $62.78 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.64% to 84.59, while EUR/INR fell 0.80% to 96.17.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.23% at 99.25.
