Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the IT, Technology and Oil & Gas sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.83%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.70%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA), which rose 12.74% or 12.45 points to trade at 110.15 at the close. Meanwhile, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) added 0.88% or 10.95 points to end at 1250.65 and ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) was up 0.82% or 2.10 points to 258.20 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bharti Infratel Limited (NS:BHRI), which fell 10.86% or 35.700 points to trade at 293.000 at the close. Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) declined 6.14% or 59.55 points to end at 910.00 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) was down 4.33% or 100.90 points to 2232.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which rose 0.84% to 258.05, POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (BO:PGRD) which was up 0.76% to settle at 206.55 and Bajaj Auto Limited (BO:BAJA) which gained 0.44% to close at 2837.75.
The worst performers were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 4.47% to 2229.90 in late trade, Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which lost 3.41% to settle at 467.20 and Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (BO:APSE) which was down 3.23% to 293.40 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1171 to 336 and 59 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1864 fell and 801 advanced, while 208 ended unchanged.
Shares in Bharti Infratel Limited (NS:BHRI) fell to 52-week lows; down 10.86% or 35.700 to 293.000. Shares in POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA (BO:PGRD) rose to all time highs; up 0.76% or 1.55 to 206.55.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.93% to 16.8250 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.39% or 4.65 to $1200.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.40% or 0.21 to hit $52.42 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.05% or 0.03 to trade at $55.29 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.00% to 67.830, while EUR/INR rose 0.14% to 72.6524.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 100.39.
