India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.74%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Metals, Healthcare and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.74%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.77%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. (NS:ARBN), which rose 4.30% or 31.55 points to trade at 765.85 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) added 3.17% or 12.95 points to end at 421.25 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) was up 2.92% or 6.05 points to 213.45 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC), which fell 2.89% or 125.00 points to trade at 4205.85 at the close. Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) declined 1.87% or 20.05 points to end at 1050.00 and ACC Ltd (NS:ACC) was down 1.42% or 24.90 points to 1734.60.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 3.21% to 421.35, Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which was up 2.66% to settle at 255.05 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which gained 2.42% to close at 291.50.

The worst performers were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 0.56% to 979.90 in late trade, Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which lost 0.49% to settle at 3766.90 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 0.46% to 1152.90 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1060 to 499 and 10 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1670 rose and 939 declined, while 158 ended unchanged.

Shares in Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) rose to 52-week highs; up 3.17% or 12.95 to 421.25. Shares in Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 2.92% or 6.05 to 213.45. Shares in Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 3.21% or 13.10 to 421.35.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.05% to 11.2550.

Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.25% or 3.06 to $1238.84 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.34% or 0.16 to hit $46.56 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.51% or 0.25 to trade at $49.09 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.01% to 64.331, while EUR/INR fell 0.18% to 74.1809.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 94.55.
