India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 3.89%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Capital Goods, Banking and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 3.89%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 4.94%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK), which rose 46.03% or 138.70 points to trade at 440.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) added 10.00% or 76.55 points to end at 842.30 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) was up 9.27% or 239.65 points to 2825.25 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which fell 14.86% or 4.40 points to trade at 25.20 at the close. GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) declined 3.31% or 2.50 points to end at 73.05 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) was down 2.60% or 11.90 points to 445.70.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which rose 45.07% to 436.95, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 11.23% to settle at 478.00 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which gained 9.57% to close at 839.90.

The worst performers were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 3.05% to 4880.50 in late trade, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which lost 2.60% to settle at 515.75 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 2.45% to 338.55 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1116 to 396 and 94 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1442 rose and 733 declined, while 159 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 7.85% to 71.5325.

Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.01% or 0.15 to $1633.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 2.86% or 0.70 to hit $23.79 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.79% or 0.49 to trade at $26.90 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 1.55% to 75.174, while EUR/INR fell 0.91% to 82.3225.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.71% at 100.275.
