India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 2.03%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Capital Goods, Banking and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 2.03%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 2.03%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which rose 7.71% or 11.95 points to trade at 167.00 at the close. Meanwhile, AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) added 7.01% or 27.10 points to end at 413.95 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) was up 6.41% or 214.60 points to 3563.95 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Nestle India Ltd (NS:NEST), which fell 5.22% or 911.95 points to trade at 16550.00 at the close. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) declined 2.16% or 10.00 points to end at 453.90 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) was down 1.04% or 5.85 points to 554.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 7.02% to 413.85, UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which was up 6.55% to settle at 3566.00 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which gained 6.22% to close at 865.50.

The worst performers were Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was down 5.38% to 16518.70 in late trade, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 2.47% to settle at 452.40 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 1.05% to 553.75 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1164 to 357 and 75 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1585 rose and 680 declined, while 162 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.65% to 38.8350.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.04% or 0.70 to $1707.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.43% or 0.11 to hit $25.89 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.03% or 0.01 to trade at $29.97 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.41% to 75.339, while EUR/INR rose 0.51% to 81.7955.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 99.918.
