India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.52%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Auto, Oil & Gas and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.52% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.49%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which rose 8.31% or 5.25 points to trade at 68.25 at the close. Meanwhile, UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) added 3.09% or 127.15 points to end at 4234.65 and State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) was up 2.86% or 9.60 points to 343.55 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI), which fell 3.20% or 7.45 points to trade at 225.30 at the close. Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) declined 2.20% or 10.55 points to end at 468.00 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) was down 1.75% or 23.90 points to 1335.50.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which rose 7.65% to 68.25, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was up 2.43% to settle at 343.60 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which gained 2.38% to close at 7296.70.

The worst performers were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was down 2.05% to 1334.90 in late trade, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which lost 1.07% to settle at 505.65 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 0.86% to 246.95 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 800 to 765 and 76 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1238 fell and 1163 advanced, while 196 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.48% to 14.6175 a new 1-month low.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.06% or 0.95 to $1466.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.19% or 0.11 to hit $58.52 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.28% or 0.18 to trade at $63.39 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.13% to 71.375, while EUR/INR fell 0.24% to 78.5555.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 98.260.
