India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.25%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the IT, Technology and Consumer Durables sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.25%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.29%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which rose 4.76% or 131.40 points to trade at 2,892.85 at the close. Meanwhile, Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) added 4.53% or 261.10 points to end at 6,021.80 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) was up 2.37% or 159.40 points to 6,875.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD), which fell 3.38% or 7.40 points to trade at 211.85 at the close. IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) declined 2.45% or 27.35 points to end at 1,089.05 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) was down 2.43% or 95.60 points to 3,841.15.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which rose 4.61% to 6,021.60, UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which was up 2.51% to settle at 6,885.20 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which gained 2.22% to close at 1,344.00.

The worst performers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 3.38% to 211.75 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 2.56% to settle at 1,088.05 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was down 2.11% to 2,114.60 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1149 to 788 and 67 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1969 fell and 1501 advanced, while 159 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.25% to 17.71 a new 3-months high.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.11% or 2.20 to $1,927.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.09% or 0.07 to hit $79.61 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.02% or 0.02 to trade at $86.42 a barrel.

USD/INR was unchanged 0.00% to 81.51, while EUR/INR rose 0.37% to 88.91.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 101.51.
