Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Real Estate, Consumer Durables and Banking sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.17% to hit a new 3-months high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.24%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were ITC Ltd (NSE:ITC), which rose 2.52% or 10.65 points to trade at 433.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NSE:HLL) added 2.13% or 50.00 points to end at 2,401.00 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NSE:MAHM) was up 1.70% or 47.10 points to 2,811.10 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NSE:INBK), which fell 4.79% or 39.65 points to trade at 788.55 at the close. Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NSE:HROM) declined 2.16% or 84.50 points to end at 3,832.50 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NSE:PGRD) was down 2.13% or 6.80 points to 313.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which rose 2.44% to 433.10, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was up 2.29% to settle at 2,403.70 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which gained 1.82% to close at 2,815.00.
The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 4.73% to 788.90 in late trade, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which lost 2.27% to settle at 312.70 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 1.93% to 1,847.30 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1477 to 912 and 43 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2371 rose and 1460 declined, while 143 ended unchanged.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.80% to 15.23.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.40% or 48.01 to $3,473.31 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.59% or 0.99 to hit $63.40 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.42% or 0.94 to trade at $67.20 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.08% to 85.10, while EUR/INR rose 0.88% to 97.95.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 98.14.
