India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.02%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Banking, Real Estate and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.02%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.02%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK), which rose 6.73% or 19.50 points to trade at 309.30 at the close. Meanwhile, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL) added 3.37% or 10.00 points to end at 307.00 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) was up 2.13% or 633.15 points to 30427.05 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which fell 2.29% or 20.30 points to trade at 865.30 at the close. Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) declined 1.75% or 24.25 points to end at 1364.90 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was down 1.48% or 17.45 points to 1165.55.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which rose 6.86% to 309.25, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was up 1.42% to settle at 250.00 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which gained 1.18% to close at 541.25.

The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 2.26% to 865.60 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 1.78% to settle at 1851.25 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was down 1.70% to 1364.85 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 919 to 674 and 47 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1471 fell and 1134 advanced, while 126 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.14% to 14.0550.

Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.32% or 4.20 to $1309.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.30% or 0.92 to hit $69.81 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.02% or 0.78 to trade at $75.39 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.09% to 67.065, while EUR/INR fell 0.48% to 79.6660.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.31% at 92.90.
