India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 1.00%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Metals, Auto and Power sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 1.00% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.95%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC), which rose 3.46% or 122.20 points to trade at 3650.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Bajaj Auto Limited (NS:BAJA) added 3.46% or 93.55 points to end at 2800.05 and Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA) was up 3.07% or 2.25 points to 75.60 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT), which fell 1.41% or 12.10 points to trade at 845.20 at the close. Yes Bank Ltd. (NS:YESB) declined 1.38% or 19.10 points to end at 1363.85 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) was down 1.08% or 3.45 points to 316.20.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Auto Limited (BO:BAJA) which rose 3.42% to 2800.00, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was up 2.68% to settle at 1219.95 and Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (BO:APSE) which gained 2.41% to close at 293.25.

The worst performers were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 1.00% to 316.20 in late trade, Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which lost 0.70% to settle at 945.10 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 0.27% to 860.95 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 914 to 553 and 89 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1580 rose and 1100 declined, while 192 ended unchanged.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.90% to 15.2850.

Gold for February delivery was down 0.25% or 3.05 to $1212.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.70% or 0.37 to hit $53.12 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.65% or 0.36 to trade at $55.59 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.15% to 68.149, while EUR/INR fell 0.13% to 73.1567.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.34% at 100.29.
