Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Banking, Auto and Consumer Durables sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.61%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.59%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which rose 3.86% or 933.65 points to trade at 25097.30 at the close. Meanwhile, AXIS Bank Ltd. (NS:AXBK) added 3.51% or 17.10 points to end at 504.25 and Tata Motors DV Ltd (NS:TAMdv) was up 3.01% or 8.40 points to 287.15 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tech Mahindra Limited (NS:TEML), which fell 2.75% or 12.90 points to trade at 455.90 at the close. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) declined 1.28% or 11.15 points to end at 860.00 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was down 1.06% or 2.00 points to 186.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 3.23% to 502.95, Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which was up 1.97% to settle at 1503.80 and Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which gained 1.48% to close at 472.40.
The worst performers were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 1.08% to 187.15 in late trade, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which lost 0.50% to settle at 280.50 and Lupin Ltd (BO:LUPN) which was down 0.45% to 1456.50 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 822 to 679 and 63 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1406 rose and 1362 declined, while 202 ended unchanged.
Shares in Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) rose to all time highs; gaining 1.97% or 29.00 to 1503.80.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.55% to 12.1175.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.14% or 1.75 to $1253.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.73% or 0.35 to hit $48.08 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.65% or 0.33 to trade at $51.23 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.01% to 65.065, while EUR/INR rose 0.02% to 70.6278.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 99.05.
