Investing.com – Greece stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking, Construction and Travel sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Athens, the Athens General Composite rose 1.76% to hit a new 5-year high.
The best performers of the session on the Athens General Composite were Cenergy Holdings SA (AT:CENEr), which rose 5.03% or 0.45 points to trade at 9.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Metlen Energy & Metals AE (AT:MYTr) added 4.87% or 1.70 points to end at 36.60 and Eurobank Ergasias SA (AT:EURBr) was up 4.58% or 0.11 points to 2.61 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were BriQ Properties REIC (AT:BRIQr), which fell 1.69% or 0.04 points to trade at 2.32 at the close. Kri-Kri Milk (AT:KRIr) declined 1.24% or 0.20 points to end at 15.90 and Dimand Societe Anonyme for Real Estate Constructions (AT:DIMANDr) was down 0.96% or 0.08 points to 8.27.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Athens Stock Exchange by 96 to 33 and 16 ended unchanged.
Shares in Eurobank Ergasias SA (AT:EURBr) rose to 5-year highs; up 4.58% or 0.11 to 2.61.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.25% or 7.39 to $2,927.99 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 3.62% or 2.47 to hit $65.79 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 3.07% or 2.18 to trade at $68.86 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 1.29% to 1.08, while EUR/GBP rose 0.70% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.10% at 104.52.
