Investing.com – Germany stocks were mixed after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Utilities, Retail and Food & Beverages sectors led shares higher while losses in the Media, Telecoms and Construction sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 0.69%, while the MDAX index fell 0.32%, and the TecDAX index climbed 0.05%.
The best performers of the session on the DAX were E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn), which rose 3.53% or 0.320 points to trade at 9.380 at the close. Meanwhile, RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) added 2.83% or 0.365 points to end at 13.275 and Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn) was up 0.50% or 0.16 points to 32.12 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG), which fell 2.22% or 0.165 points to trade at 7.274 at the close. Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p) declined 1.83% or 2.450 points to end at 131.150 and Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn) was down 1.80% or 0.275 points to 14.995.
The top performers on the MDAX were Talanx AG NA O.N. (DE:TLXGn) which rose 1.13% to 30.100, Metro AG ST O.N. (DE:MEOG) which was up 0.84% to settle at 29.885 and Deutsche Euroshop AG O.N. (DE:DEQGn) which gained 0.71% to close at 42.315.
The worst performers were Bilfinger SE O.N. (DE:GBFG) which was down 4.77% to 33.335 in late trade, K+S AG NA O.N. (DE:SDFGn) which lost 2.29% to settle at 21.560 and Rheinmetall AG (DE:RHMG) which was down 1.91% to 60.200 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Wirecard AG (DE:WDIG) which rose 5.93% to 41.060, Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which was up 2.16% to settle at 15.400 and CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (DE:COPMa) which gained 1.63% to close at 38.975.
The worst performers were GFT Technologies AG (DE:GFTG) which was down 2.20% to 21.160 in late trade, Xing AG (DE:OBCGn) which lost 1.83% to settle at 171.850 and Freenet AG NA (DE:FNTGn) which was down 1.81% to 24.950 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 543 to 327 and 32 ended unchanged.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 4.34% to 21.41.
Gold for August delivery was up 1.34% or 16.75 to $1263.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.61% or 0.81 to hit $51.17 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.87% or 0.96 to trade at $52.40 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.41% to 1.1404, while EUR/GBP rose 0.31% to 0.7834.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.39% at 93.47.
