Investing.com – Germany stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Media, Industrials and Construction sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 1.73%, while the MDAX index lost 2.72%, and the TecDAX index lost 1.45%.
The best performers of the session on the DAX were Deutsche Boerse AG (ETR:DB1Gn), which rose 1.04% or 1.65 points to trade at 159.65 at the close. Meanwhile, Beiersdorf AG O.N. (ETR:BEIG) added 0.72% or 0.70 points to end at 98.56 and Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (ETR:FREG) was up 0.55% or 0.16 points to 29.14 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (ETR:VOWG_p), which fell 4.52% or 6.36 points to trade at 134.46 at the close. Bayer AG NA (ETR:BAYGN) declined 4.33% or 2.61 points to end at 57.62 and Covestro AG (ETR:1COV) was down 4.07% or 1.40 points to 32.98.
The top performers on the MDAX were Fuchs Petrolub AG VZO Pref (ETR:FPE3_p) which rose 0.92% to 26.38, Rheinmetall AG (ETR:RHMG) which was up 0.32% to settle at 222.90 and Talanx AG NA O.N. (ETR:TLXGn) which gained 0.06% to close at 36.38.
The worst performers were Fraport AG (ETR:FRAG) which was down 7.03% to 43.40 in late trade, Lanxess AG (ETR:LXSG) which lost 6.79% to settle at 34.46 and Aroundtown Property Holdings PLC (ETR:AT1) which was down 6.51% to 3.39 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Verbio Vereinigte Bioenergie AG (ETR:VBKG) which rose 5.89% to 49.64, Deutsche Telekom AG Na (ETR:DTEGn) which was down 0.18% to settle at 19.03 and Hensoldt Ag (ETR:HAGG) which lost 0.21% to close at 23.35.
The worst performers were SMA Solar Technology AG (ETR:S92G) which was down 8.01% to 38.34 in late trade, Cancom SE O.N. (ETR:COKG) which lost 5.97% to settle at 32.78 and Varta AG (ETR:VAR1) which was down 5.35% to 81.00 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 519 to 160 and 83 ended unchanged.
Shares in Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (ETR:VOWG_p) fell to 52-week lows; falling 4.52% or 6.36 to 134.46. Shares in Covestro AG (ETR:1COV) fell to 52-week lows; down 4.07% or 1.40 to 32.98. Shares in Fraport AG (ETR:FRAG) fell to 52-week lows; losing 7.03% or 3.28 to 43.40. Shares in Cancom SE O.N. (ETR:COKG) fell to 3-years lows; down 5.97% or 2.08 to 32.78.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 6.25% to 27.70.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.18% or 3.35 to $1,817.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.44% or 0.49 to hit $111.27 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.17% or 0.19 to trade at $113.61 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.63% to 1.05, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.19% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.51% at 104.79.
