Investing.com – Germany stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Retail, Technology and Food & Beverages sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 0.70%, while the MDAX index lost 0.91%, and the TecDAX index declined 1.14%.
The best performers of the session on the DAX were Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG), which rose 1.07% or 1.15 points to trade at 108.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Beiersdorf AG O.N. (DE:BEIG) added 0.33% or 0.350 points to end at 106.000 and Henkel & Co KGaA AG Pref (DE:HNKG_p) was up 0.29% or 0.26 points to 91.48 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Covestro AG (DE:1COV), which fell 4.80% or 2.010 points to trade at 39.890 at the close. Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn) declined 1.69% or 0.345 points to end at 20.045 and Deutsche Lufthansa AG (DE:LHAG) was down 1.60% or 0.250 points to 15.340.
The top performers on the MDAX were Puma SE (DE:PUMG) which rose 2.79% to 70.10, Osram Licht AG (DE:OSRn) which was up 1.42% to settle at 45.10 and Aareal Bank AG (DE:ARLG) which gained 1.04% to close at 31.140.
The worst performers were Delivery Hero AG (DE:DHER) which was down 4.90% to 67.50 in late trade, Evotec AG O.N. (DE:EVTG) which lost 4.32% to settle at 22.140 and Metro Wholesale & Food Specialist AG (DE:B4B) which was down 3.86% to 13.3150 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which rose 0.96% to 2.629, Drillisch AG (DE:DRIG) which was up 0.81% to settle at 22.540 and Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (DE:AFXG) which gained 0.53% to close at 114.000.
The worst performers were Evotec AG O.N. (DE:EVTG) which was down 4.32% to 22.140 in late trade, Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which lost 3.72% to settle at 11.640 and TeamViewer AG (DE:TMV) which was down 3.64% to 29.40 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 493 to 198 and 62 ended unchanged.
Shares in Osram Licht AG (DE:OSRn) rose to 52-week highs; rising 1.42% or 0.63 to 45.10.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 5.34% to 15.97 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.96% or 14.95 to $1567.35 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.22% or 0.14 to hit $63.19 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.35% or 0.24 to trade at $68.84 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.33% to 1.1195, while EUR/GBP fell 0.35% to 0.8505.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.21% at 96.320.
