Factbox: More U.S. companies join Facebook ad boycott bandwagon

(Reuters) - A handful of U.S. companies have pulled advertising from Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) in support of a campaign that called out the social media giant for not doing enough to stop hate speech on its platforms.

The Stop Hate for Profit campaign was started by several U.S. civil rights groups after the death of African-American George Floyd in police custody triggered widespread protests against racial discrimination in the United States.

Unilever PLC (L:ULVR)

The consumer goods company said it will stop advertising on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter in the United States for the rest of the year, citing "divisiveness and hate speech during this polarized election period in the U.S."

Verizon Communications Inc (N:VZ)

"Our brand safety standards have not changed. We're pausing our advertising until Facebook can create an acceptable solution that makes us comfortable and is consistent with what we've done with YouTube and other partners," the telecom operator told Reuters.

The outdoor brand, a unit of VF Corp (N:VFC), said it would pull out of all Facebook-owned platforms.

Truth is companies that have seen huge losses this year decide to cut advertising cost. The plan? Make a statement that you are going to stop ads to show support. Win, win. maybe more exposure and media while saving ads budget entirely. It's a business tactic, not a sincere action. I think it's funny as anyone with a business mind sees what this really is. lol.
What we have seen for the past month is directly correlated to the election. The Democrats must truly be afraid they may lose the African American vote. Remember the Democratic party is finished if African Americans stop voting for them.
Not sure why dems/Republicans don't put more effort into Hispanic voters. I think they have identical numbers to black voters. Maybe slightly higher now too.
Define hate speech vs. Freedom of speech and who is the authority and standard of hate speech.
