(Reuters) - Walt Disney (NYSE:DIS) Co said on Wednesday it would lay off about 32,000 workers, primarily at its theme parks, an increase from the 28,000 it announced in September, as the company struggles with limited customers due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The layoffs will be in the first half of 2021, the company said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

A spokesman for Disney confirmed that the latest figures include the 28,000 layoffs announced earlier.

Earlier this month, Disney said it was furloughing additional workers from its theme park in Southern California due to uncertainty over when the state would allow parks to reopen.

Disney's theme parks in Florida and those outside the United States reopened earlier this year without seeing new major coronavirus outbreaks but with strict social distancing, testing and mask use.

Disneyland Paris was forced to close again late last month when France imposed a new lockdown to fight a second wave of the coronavirus cases.

The company's theme parks in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Tokyo remain open.

Sad case
When you have people who think wearing a mask is against their freedom, virus is a flu, does not care about being in groups without a mask, then good luck, vaccine will not solved the problem and we can expect this to be around for years...
a study from last summer by CDC stated that on 85% of masks users got Covid-19. The remaining 15% of tbe users, non-wearing, did not catch it. Interesting the results font match the MSM and political narrative.
People not realize the vaccines will not stop the spead of covid... so, unless end of 2021 when 60% of us are affected and immuted... this will not be over like regulat flu
If you change the word 'covid-19' for 'common cold' you feel like you are wearing 3D glasses.
watch the stock gap up 3%
lol.
Jon is right. Now, in the post-pandemic Markets, when a company layoffs employees is good. The narrative is that employees are a cost, and it's good to cut them!
they don't trust in magic vaccine??
was thinking the same :)
they say start in December. You don't hope enough, Yousef
You need to be forward looking by a thousand years like the other fools playing with markets
