China stocks lower at close of trade; Shanghai Composite down 3.29%

Investing.com – China stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Gas, Water & Multiutilities, Retailers and Software & Computer Services sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Shanghai, the Shanghai Composite lost 3.29% to hit a new 1-month low, while the SZSE Component index declined 5.78%.

The best performers of the session on the Shanghai Composite were Sinopec Oilfield Service Corp (SS:600871), which rose 10.04% or 1.170 points to trade at 12.820 at the close. Meanwhile, Merchants Ship (SS:601872) added 10.03% or 1.020 points to end at 11.190 and Air China SS (SS:601111) was up 10.03% or 1.400 points to 15.360 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Jinjing (SS:600586), which fell 10.06% or 0.710 points to trade at 6.350 at the close. Shandong Iron (SS:600022) declined 10.05% or 0.620 points to end at 5.550 and Huayuan Proper (SS:600743) was down 10.05% or 0.870 points to 7.790.

The top performers on the SZSE Component were Sinopec Shandong Taishan Petroleum Co Ltd (SZ:000554) which rose 10.03% to 19.53, China International Marine Containers Group Ltd (SZ:000039) which was up 10.02% to settle at 33.17 and Sunwoda Electronic (SZ:300207) which gained 9.99% to close at 22.02.

The worst performers were Apeloa Pharmaceutical Co Ltd (SZ:000739) which was down 10.04% to 9.23 in late trade, Tianma Bearing Group Co Ltd (SZ:002122) which lost 10.04% to settle at 9.95 and Elec-Tech International Co Ltd (SZ:002005) which was down 10.03% to 10.58 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Shanghai Stock Exchange by 856 to 121.

Shares in Sinopec Oilfield Service Corp (SS:600871) rose to all time highs; rising 10.04% or 1.170 to 12.820. Shares in Merchants Ship (SS:601872) rose to 3-years highs; rising 10.03% or 1.020 to 11.190. Shares in Air China SS (SS:601111) rose to 3-years highs; up 10.03% or 1.400 to 15.360. Shares in Sinopec Shandong Taishan Petroleum Co Ltd (SZ:000554) rose to all time highs; rising 10.03% or 1.78 to 19.53. Shares in China International Marine Containers Group Ltd (SZ:000039) rose to 52-week highs; up 10.02% or 3.02 to 33.17.

The CBOE China Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Shanghai Composite options, was up 6.45% to 29.36.

Gold for August delivery was up 0.38% or 4.40 to $1177.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 1.86% or 1.11 to hit $58.52 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.90% or 1.20 to trade at $62.06 a barrel.

USD/CNY was unchanged 0.00% to 6.2090, while EUR/CNY fell 0.66% to 6.8863.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.34% at 95.93.
