Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Materials, Clean Technology and Energy sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.94%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Home Capital Group Inc . (TO:HCG), which rose 6.83% or 1.77 points to trade at 27.68 at the close. Meanwhile, Kinaxis Inc (TO:KXS) added 3.85% or 2.34 points to end at 63.05 and West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd . (TO:WFT) was up 3.78% or 1.56 points to 42.79 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG), which fell 10.78% or 0.610 points to trade at 5.050 at the close. Silver Standard Resources Inc . (TO:SSO) declined 10.52% or 1.99 points to end at 16.93 and Kinross Gold Corporation (TO:K) was down 10.34% or 0.63 points to 5.46.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 792 to 377 and 126 ended unchanged.
Shares in Kinaxis Inc (TO:KXS) rose to all time highs; up 3.85% or 2.34 to 63.05.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.04% to 14.48.
Gold for December delivery was down 1.36% or 18.30 to $1327.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.72% or 1.31 to hit $46.79 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.88% or 0.94 to trade at $49.02 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.12% to 0.7736, while CAD/EUR rose 0.23% to 0.6866.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.23% at 94.72.
