Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Energy, Financials and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.72%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Eldorado Gold Corporation (TO:ELD), which rose 4.67% or 0.22 points to trade at 4.93 at the close. Meanwhile, Pan American Silver Corp (TO:PAAS) added 4.39% or 1.06 points to end at 25.20 and Tahoe Resources Inc (TO:THO) was up 4.07% or 0.47 points to 12.03 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Home Capital Group Inc . (TO:HCG), which fell 8.63% or 2.05 points to trade at 21.70 at the close. Alacer Gold Corp (TO:ASR) declined 7.69% or 0.210 points to end at 2.520 and Genworth MI Canada Inc . (TO:MIC) was down 6.00% or 2.21 points to 34.63.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 704 to 435 and 135 ended unchanged.
Shares in Home Capital Group Inc. (TO:HCG) fell to 3-years lows; falling 8.63% or 2.05 to 21.70.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.79% to 13.63.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.85% or 10.85 to $1288.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.06% or 0.03 to hit $53.14 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $55.87 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.61% to 0.7499, while CAD/EUR fell 0.13% to 0.7065.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.44% at 100.50.
