Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the REITs, Financials and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.61%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd (TO:KL), which rose 5.48% or 0.500 points to trade at 9.630 at the close. Meanwhile, Klondex Mines Ltd. (TO:KDX) added 3.84% or 0.180 points to end at 4.870 and Silver Standard Resources Inc . (TO:SSO) was up 3.56% or 0.48 points to 13.97 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Home Capital Group Inc . (TO:HCG), which fell 64.95% or 11.10 points to trade at 5.99 at the close. Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TO:WTE) declined 11.80% or 3.08 points to end at 23.03 and Sandstorm Gold Ltd . (TO:SSL) was down 9.19% or 0.500 points to 4.940.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 583 to 577 and 118 ended unchanged.
Shares in Home Capital Group Inc. (TO:HCG) fell to 5-year lows; falling 64.95% or 11.10 to 5.99.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.17% to 11.53.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.28% or 3.59 to $1270.79 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.59% or 0.29 to hit $49.27 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.86% or 0.45 to trade at $52.12 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.26% to 0.7349, while CAD/EUR fell 0.15% to 0.6734.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 98.83.
