Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Energy, Telecoms and Consumer Discretionary sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.55%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN), which rose 5.37% or 0.240 points to trade at 4.710 at the close. Meanwhile, Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TO:TRQ) added 5.26% or 0.190 points to end at 3.800 and BlackBerry Ltd (TO:BB) was up 5.25% or 0.69 points to 13.84 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Aimia Inc (TO:AIM), which fell 11.67% or 0.42 points to trade at 3.18 at the close. Semafo Inc . (TO:SMF) declined 3.96% or 0.12 points to end at 2.91 and Bonterra Energy Corp (TO:BNE) was down 3.22% or 0.60 points to 18.01.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 650 to 476 and 142 ended unchanged.
Shares in Aimia Inc (TO:AIM) fell to all time lows; falling 11.67% or 0.42 to 3.18. Shares in BlackBerry Ltd (TO:BB) rose to 52-week highs; rising 5.25% or 0.69 to 13.84.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 6.57% to 13.47.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.57% or 6.99 to $1236.99 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.59% or 0.29 to hit $48.56 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.48% or 0.25 to trade at $51.57 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.27% to 0.7356, while CAD/EUR fell 0.73% to 0.6635.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.77% at 98.05.
