Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Materials and IT sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.49%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Tahoe Resources Inc (TO:THO), which rose 15.10% or 1.62 points to trade at 12.35 at the close. Meanwhile, Kinross Gold Corporation (TO:K) added 10.68% or 0.49 points to end at 5.08 and Secure Energy Services Inc . (TO:SES) was up 3.56% or 0.31 points to 9.03 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Home Capital Group Inc . (TO:HCG), which fell 11.74% or 0.91 points to trade at 6.84 at the close. Hudson's Bay Company (TO:HBC) declined 7.06% or 0.88 points to end at 11.59 and Lundin Mining Corporation (TO:LUN) was down 6.17% or 0.460 points to 7.000.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 679 to 466 and 142 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.63% to 12.48.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.39% or 17.43 to $1239.57 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.10% or 0.05 to hit $47.61 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.28% or 0.14 to trade at $50.60 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.12% to 0.7284, while CAD/EUR rose 0.31% to 0.6690.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.43% at 99.20.
