Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Energy, Healthcare and Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.06%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aimia Inc (TO:AIM), which rose 18.69% or 0.40 points to trade at 2.54 at the close. Meanwhile, Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TO:FVI) added 9.57% or 0.56 points to end at 6.41 and Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TO:WTE) was up 5.73% or 1.13 points to 20.86 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE), which fell 6.95% or 0.31 points to trade at 4.15 at the close. Secure Energy Services Inc . (TO:SES) declined 6.91% or 0.71 points to end at 9.57 and Canadian Energy Services & Technology Corp (TO:CEU) was down 6.80% or 0.490 points to 6.720.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 621 to 507 and 132 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.04% to 13.06.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.18% or 2.27 to $1255.37 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 4.96% or 2.55 to hit $48.81 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 4.78% or 2.58 to trade at $51.38 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.56% to 0.7417, while CAD/EUR fell 0.47% to 0.6617.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 97.15.
