Canada stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.46%

Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Telecoms and REITs sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.46%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were NexGen Energy Ltd. (TO:NXE), which rose 4.32% or 0.130 points to trade at 3.140 at the close. Meanwhile, Cineplex Inc . (TO:CGX) added 3.71% or 1.37 points to end at 38.28 and TransAlta Corp (TO:TA) was up 3.06% or 0.23 points to 7.74 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Torex Gold Resources Inc (TO:TXG), which fell 5.17% or 0.730 points to trade at 13.390 at the close. Guyana Goldfields Inc . (TO:GUY) declined 4.53% or 0.210 points to end at 4.430 and CES Energy Solutions Corp (TO:CEU) was down 4.27% or 0.250 points to 5.610.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 562 to 559 and 157 ended unchanged.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 6.22% to 8.03.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.10% or 1.30 to $1293.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.40% or 0.23 to hit $57.88 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.43% or 0.27 to trade at $63.11 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.40% to 0.7800, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.00% to 0.6584.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 93.17.
