Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Energy, Materials and Telecoms sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.37%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED), which rose 5.13% or 1.660 points to trade at 34.000 at the close. Meanwhile, ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI) added 5.00% or 0.080 points to end at 1.680 and Brookfield Business Partners LP (TO:BBU_u) was up 4.99% or 2.25 points to 47.35 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Peyto Exploration&Development Corp (TO:PEY), which fell 7.03% or 1.06 points to trade at 14.02 at the close. MEG Energy Corp (TO:MEG) declined 5.69% or 0.31 points to end at 5.14 and Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TO:AAV) was down 5.31% or 0.280 points to 4.990.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 591 to 547 and 133 ended unchanged.
Shares in Brookfield Business Partners LP (TO:BBU_u) rose to all time highs; gaining 4.99% or 2.25 to 47.35.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.44% to 11.32.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.02% or 0.20 to $1321.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.69% or 0.43 to hit $61.58 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.50% or 0.34 to trade at $67.73 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.59% to 0.8055, while CAD/EUR rose 0.84% to 0.6692.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 91.72.
