Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrials, Financials and Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.32%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Detour Gold Corporation (TO:DGC), which rose 3.03% or 0.41 points to trade at 13.95 at the close. Meanwhile, TELUS Corporation (TO:T) added 3.02% or 1.38 points to end at 47.10 and Colliers International Group Inc (TO:CIGI) was up 2.62% or 1.80 points to 70.55 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Eldorado Gold Corporation (TO:ELD), which fell 11.64% or 0.22 points to trade at 1.67 at the close. Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) declined 4.86% or 0.140 points to end at 2.740 and Secure Energy Services Inc . (TO:SES) was down 3.40% or 0.26 points to 7.39.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 654 to 439 and 148 ended unchanged.
Shares in Eldorado Gold Corporation (TO:ELD) fell to 5-year lows; losing 11.64% or 0.22 to 1.67. Shares in TELUS Corporation (TO:T) rose to all time highs; up 3.02% or 1.38 to 47.10.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 5.18% to 11.98.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.04% or 0.54 to $1278.84 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.48% or 0.25 to hit $52.22 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.21% or 0.12 to trade at $58.45 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.98% to 0.7813, while CAD/EUR fell 1.34% to 0.6619.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.26% at 93.59.
