Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Materials, Consumer Discretionary and Consumer Staples sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.12%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI), which rose 4.83% or 0.070 points to trade at 1.520 at the close. Meanwhile, Teck Resources Ltd B (TO:TECKb) added 4.75% or 1.58 points to end at 34.87 and Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) was up 4.71% or 0.130 points to 2.890 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sierra Wireless Inc . (TO:SW), which fell 13.60% or 3.14 points to trade at 19.94 at the close. Guyana Goldfields Inc . (TO:GUY) declined 7.60% or 0.370 points to end at 4.500 and Eldorado Gold Corporation (TO:ELD) was down 7.05% or 0.11 points to 1.45.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 856 to 320 and 103 ended unchanged.
Shares in Sierra Wireless Inc. (TO:SW) fell to 52-week lows; falling 13.60% or 3.14 to 19.94.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 9.68% to 21.64 a new 52-week high.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.11% or 1.50 to $1317.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 3.14% or 1.92 to hit $59.23 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 3.12% or 2.02 to trade at $62.79 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.09% to 0.7943, while CAD/EUR rose 0.17% to 0.6489.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 90.27.
