Trump sends out tariff letters, extends levy deadline - what’s moving markets
Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Clean Technology, IT and Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.03%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were MDA Ltd (TSX:MDA), which rose 5.09% or 1.56 points to trade at 32.22 at the close. Meanwhile, Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) added 3.95% or 4.21 points to end at 110.81 and Brookfield Business Partners LP (TSX:BBU_u) was up 3.40% or 1.16 points to 35.25 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR), which fell 4.62% or 0.36 points to trade at 7.44 at the close. NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG) declined 4.39% or 0.26 points to end at 5.66 and Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG) was down 4.35% or 1.98 points to 43.56.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 463 to 417 and 95 ended unchanged.
Shares in MDA Ltd (TSX:MDA) rose to all time highs; up 5.09% or 1.56 to 32.22.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0.00% to 9.86.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.72% or 24.45 to $3,383.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.68% or 0.50 to hit $74.00 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 2.02% or 1.59 to trade at $77.26 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.32% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.50% to 0.63.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 98.39.
