Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Consumer Staples and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.42%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Tahoe Resources Inc (TO:THO), which rose 5.73% or 0.61 points to trade at 11.26 at the close. Meanwhile, Silver Standard Resources Inc . (TO:SSO) added 4.84% or 0.68 points to end at 14.72 and Tricon Capital Group Inc (TO:TCN) was up 4.61% or 0.48 points to 10.90 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc (TO:VRX), which fell 13.90% or 3.05 points to trade at 18.89 at the close. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) declined 4.70% or 0.190 points to end at 3.850 and Nevsun Resources Ltd . (TO:NSU) was down 4.02% or 0.140 points to 3.340.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 734 to 454 and 123 ended unchanged.
Shares in Tricon Capital Group Inc (TO:TCN) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 4.61% or 0.48 to 10.90. Shares in Nevsun Resources Ltd. (TO:NSU) fell to 52-week lows; down 4.02% or 0.140 to 3.340.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 7.93% to 14.42 a new 3-months high.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.78% or 9.85 to $1248.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.20% or 0.11 to hit $53.94 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.07% or 0.04 to trade at $56.46 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.96% to 0.7515, while CAD/EUR fell 0.82% to 0.7106.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 101.34.
