Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Energy, Healthcare and Industrials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.41% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were NexGen Energy Ltd. (TO:NXE), which rose 6.81% or 0.220 points to trade at 3.450 at the close. Meanwhile, Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) added 6.36% or 0.650 points to end at 10.870 and Bonavista Energy Corp (TO:BNP) was up 6.04% or 0.200 points to 3.510 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers Inc . (TO:RBA), which fell 5.39% or 2.310 points to trade at 40.570 at the close. Silver Standard Resources Inc . (TO:SSO) declined 2.35% or 0.35 points to end at 14.52 and Detour Gold Corporation (TO:DGC) was down 2.17% or 0.36 points to 16.21.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 775 to 374 and 133 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 12.91% to 12.16.
Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.19% or 2.35 to $1254.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.68% or 0.88 to hit $53.12 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.41% or 0.78 to trade at $56.02 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.56% to 0.7500, while CAD/EUR rose 0.55% to 0.7084.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 101.02.
