Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the REITs, Energy and Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.25%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb), which rose 6.96% or 0.11 points to trade at 1.69 at the close. Meanwhile, Hudson's Bay Company (TO:HBC) added 6.58% or 1.28 points to end at 20.73 and Teck Resources Ltd (TO:TCKb) was up 6.05% or 0.36 points to 6.31 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Concordia Healthcare (TO:CXR), which fell 15.37% or 8.77 points to trade at 48.28 at the close. Penn West Petroleum Ltd. (TO:PWT) declined 10.29% or 0.07 points to end at 0.61 and Veresen Inc . (TO:VSN) was down 7.81% or 0.85 points to 10.03.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 742 to 601 and 185 ended unchanged.
Shares in Penn West Petroleum Ltd. (TO:PWT) fell to 5-year lows; losing 10.29% or 0.07 to 0.61. Shares in Veresen Inc. (TO:VSN) fell to 5-year lows; down 7.81% or 0.85 to 10.03.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.20% to 26.45.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.39% or 4.40 to $1127.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.78% or 0.79 to hit $45.22 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.83% or 0.86 to trade at $48.20 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.20% to 0.7450, while CAD/EUR fell 0.30% to 0.6622.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.08% at 96.06.
