Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, Energy and Real Estate sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.04%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM), which rose 9.13% or 0.95 points to trade at 11.35 at the close. Meanwhile, Cenovus Energy Inc (TO:CVE) added 6.69% or 1.17 points to end at 18.67 and Teck Resources Ltd (TO:TCKb) was up 6.60% or 1.25 points to 20.19 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Cameco Corp (TO:CCO), which fell 11.06% or 1.55 points to trade at 12.47 at the close. Home Capital Group Inc . (TO:HCG) declined 8.79% or 2.77 points to end at 28.75 and Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan (TO:POT) was down 7.18% or 1.62 points to 20.95.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 633 to 509 and 145 ended unchanged.
Shares in First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (TO:FM) rose to 52-week highs; up 9.13% or 0.95 to 11.35. Shares in Cameco Corp (TO:CCO) fell to 5-year lows; down 11.06% or 1.55 to 12.47. Shares in Teck Resources Ltd (TO:TCKb) rose to 52-week highs; up 6.60% or 1.25 to 20.19.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 9.29% to 12.01.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.63% or 8.40 to $1342.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.93% or 0.81 to hit $41.11 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.62% or 0.71 to trade at $43.20 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.21% to 0.7600, while CAD/EUR rose 0.03% to 0.6860.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.08% at 96.67.
