Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrials, IT and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.95%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aritzia Inc (TSX:ATZ), which rose 13.75% or 6.82 points to trade at 56.42 at the close. Meanwhile, TerraVest Industries Inc (TSX:TVK) added 9.47% or 13.98 points to end at 161.64 and Algoma Steel Group Inc (TSX:ASTL) was up 7.69% or 0.57 points to 7.98 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were MDA Ltd (TSX:MDA), which fell 14.34% or 3.85 points to trade at 22.99 at the close. Magna International Inc (TSX:MG) declined 5.79% or 2.81 points to end at 45.69 and Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) was down 4.55% or 0.03 points to 0.63.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 594 to 293 and 90 ended unchanged.
Shares in TerraVest Industries Inc (TSX:TVK) rose to all time highs; gaining 9.47% or 13.98 to 161.64.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 8.62% to 18.35.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.74% or 23.74 to $3,245.94 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.28% or 0.76 to hit $58.48 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.00% or 0.62 to trade at $61.51 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.30% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.23% to 0.64.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 99.85.
