Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Energy, Materials and IT sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.85%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were MDA Ltd (TSX:MDA), which rose 12.96% or 2.84 points to trade at 24.76 at the close. Meanwhile, Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE) added 5.46% or 0.19 points to end at 3.67 and BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB) was up 5.19% or 0.39 points to 7.90 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb), which fell 3.68% or 3.06 points to trade at 80.09 at the close. Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) declined 2.78% or 0.04 points to end at 1.40 and Aya Gold & Silver Inc (TSX:AYA) was down 2.22% or 0.27 points to 11.89.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 601 to 332 and 85 ended unchanged.
Shares in Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) fell to all time lows; falling 2.78% or 0.04 to 1.40. Shares in BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB) rose to 52-week highs; up 5.19% or 0.39 to 7.90.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 18.70% to 17.20 a new 6-months high.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.63% or 47.12 to $2,934.72 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 2.08% or 1.48 to hit $72.48 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.88% or 1.40 to trade at $76.06 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.11% to 0.70, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.10% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 108.21.
