Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Materials, IT and Energy sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.78%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Colliers International Group Inc (TO:CIGI), which rose 10.91% or 8.18 points to trade at 83.18 at the close. Meanwhile, Novagold Resources Inc . (TO:NG) added 10.90% or 0.51 points to end at 5.19 and IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG) was up 8.63% or 0.610 points to 7.680 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were BRP Inc. (TO:DOO), which fell 4.89% or 2.56 points to trade at 49.74 at the close. Enbridge Inc. (TO:ENB) declined 2.88% or 1.27 points to end at 42.86 and Cineplex Inc . (TO:CGX) was down 2.71% or 0.90 points to 32.27.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 712 to 408 and 129 ended unchanged.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0.00% to 21.65 a new 52-week high.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.74% or 23.20 to $1353.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 2.62% or 1.55 to hit $60.74 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 2.66% or 1.67 to trade at $64.39 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.76% to 0.8002, while CAD/EUR fell 0.08% to 0.6425.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.79% at 88.89.
