Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the IT, Telecoms and REITs sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.52%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP), which rose 9.62% or 14.85 points to trade at 169.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS) added 8.23% or 10.35 points to end at 136.05 and BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB) was up 6.47% or 0.38 points to 6.25 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were NFI Group Inc (TSX:NFI), which fell 7.51% or 0.98 points to trade at 12.07 at the close. BRP Inc (TSX:DOO) declined 4.08% or 3.09 points to end at 72.73 and Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) was down 4.08% or 3.67 points to 86.35.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 486 to 432 and 98 ended unchanged.
Shares in BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB) rose to 52-week highs; rising 6.47% or 0.38 to 6.25.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.26% to 14.91.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.15% or 31.94 to $2,798.14 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.89% or 0.65 to hit $73.82 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.30% or 0.23 to trade at $76.41 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.17% to 0.69, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.41% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.52% at 107.72.
