Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Consumption and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.31%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5), which rose 5.39% or 0.72 points to trade at 14.07 at the close. Meanwhile, Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) added 4.37% or 1.38 points to end at 32.96 and Klabin Unt (SA:KLBN11) was up 2.31% or 0.38 points to 16.80 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4), which fell 4.52% or 0.26 points to trade at 5.49 at the close. Gerdau SA Pref (SA:GGBR4) declined 4.04% or 0.51 points to end at 12.10 and Bradespar SA (SA:BRAP4) was down 3.55% or 0.73 points to 19.81.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 211 to 134 and 29 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.00% to 33.35.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.57% or 6.85 to $1205.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.59% or 0.30 to hit $51.38 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 0.84% or 1.25 to trade at $150.82 .
USD/BRL was down 1.05% to 3.1970, while EUR/BRL fell 0.78% to 3.4074.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.16% at 101.15.
