Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Real Estate, Public Utilities and Electric Power sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 2.41% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were CEMIG - Companhia Energetica Minas Gerais Pref (SA:CMIG4), which rose 12.06% or 0.93 points to trade at 8.64 at the close. Meanwhile, BR Malls Participacoes SA (SA:BRML3) added 8.51% or 1.09 points to end at 13.90 and Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3) was up 7.76% or 1.67 points to 23.20 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Cielo SA (SA:CIEL3), which fell 1.57% or 0.41 points to trade at 25.77 at the close. Embraer SA (SA:EMBR3) declined 1.55% or 0.26 points to end at 16.49 and Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) was down 1.26% or 0.40 points to 31.30.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 267 to 81 and 29 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 3.42% to 32.71 a new 1-month low.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.17% or 2.05 to $1194.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.61% or 0.84 to hit $53.09 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 0.39% or 0.58 to trade at $149.73 .
USD/BRL was down 0.29% to 3.1880, while EUR/BRL rose 0.06% to 3.3855.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.29% at 101.41.
