Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Financials and Public Utilities sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 1.90% to hit a new 3-years high.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5), which rose 8.30% or 0.40 points to trade at 5.22 at the close. Meanwhile, Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3) added 5.57% or 1.10 points to end at 20.85 and Bradespar SA (SA:BRAP4) was up 5.19% or 1.08 points to 21.88 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3), which fell 4.44% or 0.63 points to trade at 13.55 at the close. Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3) declined 2.85% or 0.47 points to end at 16.05 and JBS SA (SA:JBSS3) was down 1.16% or 0.14 points to 11.94.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 219 to 171 and 25 ended unchanged.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.91% to 29.30 a new 1-month low.
Gold for February delivery was up 0.89% or 10.75 to $1215.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.77% or 0.41 to hit $52.81 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 0.95% or 1.45 to trade at $154.68 .
USD/BRL was down 0.23% to 3.1641, while EUR/BRL rose 0.27% to 3.4006.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.64% at 100.13.
