Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Financials, Public Utilities and Electric Power sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.82% to hit a new 1-month high.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3), which rose 4.04% or 0.57 points to trade at 14.67 at the close. Meanwhile, Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3) added 4.04% or 0.67 points to end at 17.26 and Cosan SA Industria e Comercio (SA:CSAN3) was up 3.60% or 1.38 points to 39.74 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Vale SA (SA:VALE3), which fell 3.93% or 1.25 points to trade at 30.57 at the close. Vale SA Pref (SA:VALE5) declined 1.96% or 0.57 points to end at 28.49 and Cielo SA (SA:CIEL3) was down 1.74% or 0.45 points to 25.46.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 253 to 150 and 31 ended unchanged.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 2.15% to 32.82.
Gold for February delivery was up 1.59% or 19.00 to $1215.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.23% or 0.12 to hit $52.49 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 0.58% or 0.87 to trade at $149.90 .
USD/BRL was down 0.98% to 3.2096, while EUR/BRL rose 0.02% to 3.4374.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.17% at 100.34.
