Investing.com -- BMW (OTC:BMWYY) announced Thursday that it has joined forces with Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM) and Arriver to co-develop the next generation of automated driving systems. Arriver is a company created through a partnership between Veoneer (NYSE:VNE) and Qualcomm.

The cooperation is a long-term one that will see the companies focus on the joint development of next-generation automated driving technologies, from a New Car Assessment Program to Level 2 Advanced Driving Assistance Systems and Level 3 High Automated Driving.

The co-development of the software functions is based on the current BMW Automated Driving software stack.

The companies' focus will be on creating a scalable platform for Automated Driving. BMW said it will involve the efforts of more than 1,400 specialists working together in locations worldwide.

In November last year, the companies revealed BMW’s next-generation Automated Driving System will be using the Snapdragon Ride Vision system-on-chip.

"To enable sophisticated and safe functionalities in a vehicle you need state-of-the art software in all components of the digital value chain," said Nicolai Martin, Senior Vice President, Development Automated Driving at BMW.

"This forms the backbone for intelligent driver assistance systems. The BMW Group is excited to further extend our partnership with global technology leaders Qualcomm Technologies and Arriver to include a long-lasting strategic co-development cooperation.”
