Investing.com – Belgium stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Healthcare and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Brussels, the BEL 20 fell 0.17%.
The best performers of the session on the BEL 20 were NV Bekaert SA (BR:BEKB), which rose 2.16% or 0.84 points to trade at 39.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Engie SA (PA:ENGIE) added 1.11% or 0.13 points to end at 11.79 and UCB (BR:UCB) was up 0.08% or 0.05 points to 64.30 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Umicore NV (BR:UMI), which fell 1.57% or 0.86 points to trade at 53.83 at the close. Galapagos NV (AS:GLPG) declined 1.42% or 0.920 points to end at 63.920 and Telenet Group (BR:TNET) was down 1.41% or 0.72 points to 50.38.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Brussels Stock Exchange by 66 to 50 and 11 ended unchanged.
Gold for February delivery was up 1.37% or 16.35 to $1212.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.63% or 0.33 to hit $52.70 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.04% or 0.02 to trade at $55.88 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.92% to 1.0699, while EUR/GBP fell 1.84% to 0.8639.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.08% at 100.43.
