Investing.com – Australia stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Energy, Telecoms Services and Resources sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 declined 0.57%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Afterpay Touch Group Ltd (ASX:APT), which rose 13.31% or 4.230 points to trade at 36.000 at the close. Meanwhile, Bravura Solutions Ltd (ASX:BVS) added 4.11% or 0.170 points to end at 4.310 and Smartgroup Corporation Ltd (ASX:SIQ) was up 2.29% or 0.270 points to 12.070 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Pro Medicus Ltd (ASX:PME), which fell 5.80% or 1.730 points to trade at 28.080 at the close. Beach Energy Ltd (ASX:BPT) declined 5.58% or 0.150 points to end at 2.540 and Jumbo Interactive Ltd (ASX:JIN) was down 5.28% or 1.300 points to 23.300.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 698 to 450 and 373 ended unchanged.
Shares in Afterpay Touch Group Ltd (ASX:APT) rose to all time highs; rising 13.31% or 4.230 to 36.000.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 2.17% to 13.297.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.26% or 4.05 to $1536.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.70% or 0.40 to hit $56.89 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.82% or 0.52 to trade at $62.58 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.26% to 0.6782, while AUD/JPY fell 0.02% to 72.78.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 98.123.
