Investing.com – Australia stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the IT, Telecoms Services and Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.34%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Ansell Ltd (ASX:ANN), which rose 7.87% or 2.75 points to trade at 37.68 at the close. Meanwhile, Resolute Mining Ltd (ASX:RSG) added 5.71% or 0.02 points to end at 0.37 and Beach Energy Ltd (ASX:BPT) was up 4.21% or 0.06 points to 1.42 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were CAR Group Ltd (ASX:CAR), which fell 6.87% or 2.82 points to trade at 38.21 at the close. JB Hi-Fi Ltd (ASX:JBH) declined 4.60% or 4.71 points to end at 97.74 and Wisetech Global Ltd (ASX:WTC) was down 4.39% or 5.70 points to 124.20.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 573 to 495 and 404 ended unchanged.
Shares in Ansell Ltd (ASX:ANN) rose to 3-years highs; up 7.87% or 2.75 to 37.68.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 3.91% to 10.96.
Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.57% or 16.54 to $2,904.14 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.76% or 0.54 to hit $71.54 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.80% or 0.60 to trade at $75.26 a barrel.
AUD/USD was unchanged 0.10% to 0.63, while AUD/JPY rose 0.44% to 95.36.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 108.10.
