Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Gold, Metals & Mining and Resources sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.55%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Cleanaway Waste Management Ltd (AX:CWY), which rose 6.32% or 0.083 points to trade at 1.387 at the close. Meanwhile, Nanosonics Ltd (AX:NAN) added 6.19% or 0.195 points to end at 3.345 and Western Areas Ltd (AX:WSA) was up 5.20% or 0.105 points to 2.125 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were CSR Ltd (AX:CSR), which fell 12.19% or 0.630 points to trade at 4.540 at the close. GWA Group Ltd (AX:GWA) declined 4.00% or 0.130 points to end at 3.120 and Incitec Pivot Ltd (AX:IPL) was down 3.42% or 0.130 points to 3.670.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Australia Stock Exchange by 624 to 511 and 333 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 3.71% to 11.851.
Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.57% or 6.93 to $1223.03 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.46% or 0.21 to hit $46.09 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.35% or 0.17 to trade at $48.90 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.34% to 0.7367, while AUD/JPY rose 0.11% to 83.81.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 99.30.
